Tapputi-Belatekallim: the world's first chemist and perfumer

The history of chemistry and perfumery is inextricably linked, and the first mention of a specialist in both of these sciences dates back to the twelfth millennium BC. The story about the perfumer under the king of Mesopotamia is written in cuneiform on clay tablets, and this perfumer was a woman, also known as Tapputi-Belatekallim.

Tapputi-Belatekallim comes from Babylonia

As is known from the archives, Tapputi worked with her assistant named Nina.
Together they experimented with various essences and instruments and, apparently, were quite wealthy people, since Tapputi, in addition to being a perfumer, also acted as a palace overseer.

Various flowers, oils, calamus, myrrh, as well as filtered and distilled water were used for perfumes. All these incense were not always used to enjoy the aroma: in those days, the ritual and medical aspects of the use of strong odors were considered much more important than all others.
