Degrees of Comparison of Adjactives

An  adjective is a part of speech that describes a person, an object, a place or an animal.
Examples: tall, smart, hot, long, old, big.

A comparative adjective  compares two things. (сравнительная степень)

Пример:
Ice-cream is better than cakes.
Buses are cheaper than planes.

A superlative form (превосходная степень) compares more than two things.

Пример:
Peter is the tallest in his family.
You are the smartest in your class.

Для образования сравнительной степени к этому прилагательному необходимо добавить окончание -er, а для образования превосходной степени – -est.

Обратите внимание: мы используем than, когда сравниваем две вещи.
Comparative: Jane is smarter than her sister.
Superlative: Jane is the smartest in her class.

Подчеркиваем сходство, то используем as … as ...
She is as tall as her sister 
Такая же высокая, как и

Not as … as...
Jane is not as tall as her sister 
… не такая высокая, как ….

Указываем на различия, то
Мы употребляем
Not as … as
-er than …/ more … than 
Less … than … （менее … чем)

-er than … / more … than …, less … than...
1. Jane is older than Kate.
2. She is more attractive than her cousin.
3. She is less attractive is the photo than she is in real life.

Сравнение может быть усилено словами much, a bit
1. His hair is a bit darker than his brother's hair. - немного темнее

2. My father is much older than his brother. - намного старше

3. He is much more handsome in the photo. - намного красивее
