Halloween is celebrated on October 31, the eve of the Christian festival of All Saints.
It has its origins in
the autumn festivals.
The history of the festival

The ancient Druids
believed that on the last night of October spirits of the dead come out and frighten people.

In ancient Rome the festival of goddess of fruits and gardens was celebrated. Nuts and apples symbolize the winter store of fruit.

Take a big yellow pumpkin.
Cut a nose, a mouth and eyes.
Put the candle inside the pumpkin.
Light the candle.
Put the pumpkin near the house.
How to make a Jack-o'-lantern

There is a tradition to put on spooky costumes of demons, vampires and skeletons.
Celebrations

Children paint their faces to scare the evil spirits.

They go from house to house and say “Trick or Treat”. It means “give us something delicious or we’ll play a trick on you”.

They are usually given apples, nuts and candies.

There is also a competition “bobbing for apples”. They must catch as many apples as possible from a water basin with their teeth.
