My favorite writer is Anton Pavlovich Chekhov

My favorite writer is Anton Pavlovich Chekhov. In my opinion, this is the greatest Russian playwright and short story writer. I never get tired of reading and rereading his plays and humorous stories.

Chekhov was born in Taganrog in 1860. In 1879, he went to Moscow, where he studied medicine. Although he had little practice as a doctor in his life, he was more proud of his medical knowledge than of his writing talent. While in College, Chekhov wrote humorous sketches for humorous Newspapers to support his family. He collected the best of them in a volume, Motley stories, in 1886. The book attracted the attention of the publisher Novoye Vremya and Chekhov was invited to regularly contribute stories.

Chekhov, as an authoritative writer, managed to develop his own style. Although he never stopped writing comic stories, he started working in a more serious way. In 1887, Ivanov, his first play, established Chekhov as a playwright. Since then, he has focused on writing plays as well as short stories.

Chekhov was published in the Moscow humor magazines "alarm Clock", "Spectator", "Fragments", and collaborated with the "Petersburg newspaper", the newspaper "Novoe Vremya" and "Russian Vedomosti". In 1882, the writer completed work on the first collection of short stories "Prank", but it was never published, probably due to financial problems. Chekhov's first collection, Tales of Melpomene, was published in 1884.
