HOLIDAYS IN ENGLAND

New Year’s Day

New Year’s Day celebrates
(празднует) the start of a
new year. It is celebrated on
January 1st. On this day
people think about the past
year and look forward
(заглядывают) to a future
(будущее). But in England
the New Year is not so
popular(популярный) as
Christmas.

Easter

Easter is the time for
holidays, festivals
(фестиваль) and time
for giving chocolate
(шоколадный) Easter
eggs, the day of parties
(вечеринки) and
above all (прежде всего) a
celebration that
Jesus raised (воскрес) from
the dead (мертвый)
and lives forever.

Mother’s Day

Every second Sunday in
May English mothers

queens for-a-day (на

Children present cards,
flowers, call (звонить)
their mothers.

The earliest (ранний) popular symbol of that day is Cupid, the Roman god (бог) of love, a young boy with a bow (лук) and arrow (стрела) in hands. St. Valentine’s Day is the day of all sweethearts.

Boxing Day

The Britain Boxing Day is usually celebrated on the following (следующий) day after Christmas day, which is 26 December. Boxing Day is a public (общественный) holiday.
