You must be the change you wish to see in the world (Mahatma Gandhi, Indian politician)
The Recycling Loop
Think of the recycling logo with the three chasing arrows. Explain what the logo means.
Recycling is a key component of modern waste reduction and is the third component of the “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle” waste hierarchy.
Useful vocabulary
chasing arrows;
process;
recycling truck;
sorting;
manufacture;
display;
conserve;
resources;
eliminate;
waste;
landfill.
Each of them represents one part of the process.
Part 1.
Recycling starts when you put your rubbish in the recycling bins
Part 2.
A recycling truck collects all the materials and takes them to recycling facilities for sorting. Recycling facilities sort them.
From there , they are sent to factories
and new products are manufactured.
Factories manufacture new products.
Part 3.
Recycled materials transformed into
clothes and more different things! Recycled materials are everywhere, even in the clothes we wear…
Historical Note
Recycling was a highlight throughout World War II. During the war, financial constraints and significant material shortages due to war efforts made it necessary for countries to reuse goods and recycle materials. Recycling household materials meant more resources for war efforts and a better chance of victory.
Let’s sum up
Recycling different products will help the environment. For example, we know that paper comes from trees and many trees are being cut down just to produce paper. By recycling it, we can help lessen the number of trees that are cut down.
It takes less energy to process recycled materials than to process virgin materials. For example, it takes a lot less energy to recycle paper than to create new paper from trees.
By saving energy in industrial production through recycling, the greenhouse gas emissions from factories and industrial plants are lessened and the use of fuels that emit harmful gasses during production is also minimized.
By recycling, we can lessen the waste materials that are placed into landfills and we are able to make the most out of these materials.
