Air pollution is a very serious threat to our environment.
Big factories
pollute the air.

Car fumes pollute the air we breath.

Cutting down forest damages thousands of acres of land every day. Deforestation puts many species at risk. Wildlife species become extinct because of habitat destruction.

Polluted water affects people’s health.About 1.4 billion people have no access to safe drinking water.Water pollution is the biggest danger.

This is the result of human activities. Oil spills pollute water, they cause water animals to die.

Big tankers emit tons of oil into the sea water. Wild life suffers from this pollution.

Some scientists are now concerned that the Earth’s surface will warm up too much – to a dangerous degree. This is called global warming.

Most cities produce a lot of waste every day. If it is just thrown away or even dug up, it may be around for decades, and could even release dangerous chemicals into the soil.

Chemicals can threaten the lives of the people that are living or working near by. If toxic or poisonous, liquid chemicals are poured into the water, it is possible to put large populations of people’s health at risk.

Environmentalists are worried because many coral reefs are disappearing. Tourists damage reefs by putting rubbish into the sea.

Noise pollution. There is much noise in the big cities because of air jets, city transport and so on.

I’m worried about the state of the Shaba and the Ona rivers in my area. Water is very muddy and green.

People throw out litter into the rivers and ponds.

We must keep our native place clean, because our future is in our hands. If we see litter on the ground, we must put it into a litter bin.

Keep the country tidy.
Respect the life and work of the countryside.
Grow trees and flowers.
Do not cut wild flowers.
Put litter away.
Do not frighten birds and animals.
Do not burn fires.

I am the Earth
And the Earth is me.
Each blade of grass,
Each honey tree,
Each bit of mud,
And stick and stone,
Is blood and muscle,
Skin and bone.
And just as I need every bit
Of me to make my body fit.
So Earth needs
Grass and stone and tree
And things that grow here
Naturally.
